On November 7, 2005, the St. Louis Cardinals sponsored a formal ceremony to mark the start of the demolition of Busch Stadium. Although wrecking had already begun inside of the stadium, the landmark concrete shell had remained intact until this day. A woman won the chance to direct the first swing of the wrecking ball at the stadium.
