he lives in a high-rise.
i live by a river.
across town. around. thru
rows of bungalows. without a
car, don’t go very many places.
up hampton. over that-a-way. but, still,
not often/much at all. i don’t like to drive,
sit around and don’t go. i live on the
wrong side of town. of course.
thru downtown, thru south city.
yes. been there. not often.
i plan trips out like vacations:
check on that building, visit her, stop
by that coffee shop. i make my own center.
but it’s not good enough.
too much driving, going out of my way.
up mccausland. to there if i want.
drive to a park, defeats the purpose.
i walk but not as much as i want.
something else? what? the whole thing
in reverse.
she lives in a house. he lives by a
hospital. they meet monthly, mostly.
proximity: by some standards, yes.
not really. rather, not really here.
the best place to have coffee is
three miles from my house. my friends
are sometimes farther:
him - 4 miles
her - 10 miles
them - 15 miles
etc.
add it up-we might be somewhere else entirely.
we are always somewhere else. entirely.
and that’s before the other count begins:
her - 800 miles
him - 356 miles
etc.
