ecology of absence

Murphy Building

LOCATION: Collinsville Avenue; Dowtown; East Saint Louis, Illinois
DATE OF CONSTRUCTION: 1908

Alert: Murphy Building vandalized

The elegant Murphy Building has sat abandoned in downtown East St. Louis for at least thiry years. On one wing of its rear section, the entire corner pier has collapses, leaving behind sheared concrete floorplates that look like dog-eared pages in a book. The building seems to have not future and no guardian.
